Other puppets produced during the fifties included Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy, The Lone Ranger, Al Jolson, Milton Berle, Joe Palooka, Humphrey, The Great Foodini, Jolo, Pinhead and Mr. Pitch.
Dakin began as a family business in 1955 importing expensive handcrafted shotguns from Europe. Richard's son Roger joined the firm in 1957 and they began to diversify the types of toys they sold.. In a shipment of battery operated trains from Japan were six velveteen stuffed animals, often used by exporters in the Far East as packing material. Roger ordered the dolls: they sold well, so they began designing dolls and puppets.
My-Toy Company, Inc., was principally engaged in the manufacture and sale of dolls, stuffed plush toys, and puppets. The company was established in 1929 and seems to have existed as late as 1975. Among the company's offerings was a battery-powered handheld novelty plastic record player that reproduced either a laugh track or a comical wake-up alarm.
